Here is another view of the rock formations that bring many hikers to Castle Rock regional park in Walnut Creek from a different vantage point. Many hikers and rock climbers alike enjoy these rock formations when they are open to the public. As of this writing in March of 2015 the rocks are closed to protect the breeding grounds of the peregrine falcons who can be seen flying around the park throughout most of the year. The closure effectively closes about one third of the most frequently hiked trails in the park. It remains to be seen what if any effect the closure will have on the falcon population.
